A Teacher's Heroic Act

Our company not only caters to individuals with their insurance needs, but we also extend our services to public school teachers with our salary loan program.

Out of hundreds of teachers I meet each year, I have quite a share of their life stories, especially when they apply for loan and give reason why they have done so. One teacher struck me with her story..here it goes:

She's a young teacher just in her 30's ( 31 to be exact)...She is married but still childless due to infantile development of her ovary...She applies for loan not for herself nor for the needs of her husband...but she loans to extend help to those people around her. She applied loan the first time when her father was diagnosed with cancer...who died 2 years later..while they were still in and out of the hospital, she had to reloan because this time, it was her sister who had kidney failure, and died 8 months after.

With broken heart, she continued to help her loved ones...Since her sister died, she has provided for the needs of her niece who is barely a year old when her mother died...and recently she applied loan with us to help this baby who was hospitalized. Part of her loan proceeds went to his child, another part went to a friend who helped them during their crisis and who is the one in need now.

When she came back to my office to encash her check, she had another story to share, and this time she is helping a student ( she's a SPED teacher)who had a bilateral Moya2 disease and had a stroke at the age of 10. This teacher rushed this kid to the hospital without shoes on, and went out her way to raise funds for this indigent student. She went as far as asking help from her fraternity, meeting up with congressmen running for reelection in different sorties she could find them...and what not? She has gone to every government organizations that could dole out money...She has done all of these because she wants to help....She even went as far as going to the other island just to ask for help, all expenses shouldered by her...

I find this teacher a modern day hero...she is true to her vocation of being a public servant and we all need her kind in every government field...I hope someday, her efforts and sacrifices will be recognized by her peers and the governing body for education...

KUDOS to you Mam Perez...
